Into the Pegasos 1/ MorphOS

Updated: 28.05.2005

A lot of reviews of the Pegasos have been published since its release, more than two years ago. Unfortunately, most were written from a fan point of view and were not really objective so I decided to write my own review.

The goal of this article is to present the Pegasos/MorphOS couple so I won't mention anything about other OSs running on the machine, such as Linux, or even MacOSX.

Please note that I'm describing the Pegasos 1 machine which has now been replaced by the Pegasos 2 which fixes all known hardware problems found in its predecessor and adds some more upto date stuff such as DDR RAM and GigaBit Ethernet.

Part 1 Into the Hardware

Pegasos 1 Motherboard

G3 Processor Card
The Micro-ATX board feels well-polished and well-designed.
People not really into hardware could see a PC motherboard in it...

Pegasos 1 Specs:
  • 1 AGP port
  • 3 PCI slots
  • 2 SDRAM sockets
  • 2 IDE UDMA
  • 2 USB 1.1, AC97 & Midi/Gameport
  • 1 Firewire 400 Mbit port
  • 1 Ethernet 10/100
  • 1 Serial port, 1 Parallel port, 2 PS2 ports

Note that the CPU is put on a CPU card that can easily be exchanged by a new one.

The motherboard gives a really good first impression !
